Humanity AI is a pooled philanthropic fund backed by 10 major foundations, including MacArthur, Ford, Mellon, and Omidyar Network. It funds organizations working to ensure AI serves the public interest.
Nine organizations received $500,000 each, including AI Now Institute, Center for Democracy and Technology, Pulitzer Center, DAIR Institute, and Student Defense, among others.
A $10 million open call is expected in summer 2026. Details on eligibility and application criteria will be shared at humanityai.ai.
AI Civics is a new program funded at $3 million, led by Data & Society and the Digital Public Library of America. It aims to give communities a real voice in how AI is developed and deployed, starting with library-based convenings across the U.S.
